Poetry Night

So welcome to the first “poetry night” post, quite an event 😉. I am a huge fan of audio books, and I have wanted to make more audio stories for the blog, but a long story can be quite challenging to record. You say something wrong/ the sound isn’t great, you need to start over … and then over again… and over again. So I thought why not record a poem, or like I sometimes call it; “a really, really short story” 😊. I have figured out that I do tend to write poems that I feel are the beginning of a story or like a “glimpse” into a story.

In this “poetry night” post (no idea why I chose that name, kind of remind me of a stand-up show only with poetry 😉 ) I have recorded myself reading three of my poems and played some simple melodies and added some sound effects to try to create a story. You can listen to them here or download them, all up to you. I hope you will like it, the concept is still a bit new to me, so let me know what you think, if there are some of the poems you think work better than others for this kind of thing, or maybe the whole idea is a bit silly… who knows 😊

Let’s start, the first one does have a dark feeling…although I do think this is my personal favorite for this poetry night.

There is no time for crying

Okay so I hope you thought that was interesting, maybe you even wonder what happens next?

Anyway, it is time for the next poem, which I do believe have a very different feeling 😊

    Hilde,

It is compelling to hear your words and stories in your own voice. Your inflection and tone reflect more of the emotions than your words do on their own. This is an interesting concept that I would like to emulate, but my skills with media are limited and I do not share your musical talent. Keep them coming. There is not a poem you can write that I wouldn’t prefer to hear you read to me, than to read myself. Great work and post!

Loved this. You have a good voice for poetry, very different from your excellent singing voice. Great to be able to adapt to the medium like that. I thought the reading were really well mixed too, the sounds and music supporting, never obtrusive. Thank you!

I’m going to continue to use audio readings too. It’s good practice for when I finally get around to attempting an audiobook! Ambitious I know, but good to have goals 😊
