Breathe

 Don’t forget
to breathe
She said
I tried
I really did
But the air
really couldn’t
reach me
 Breathe
She would whisper
Just breathe
For another minute
For another second
Until we get out
Have faith
She would mumble
I don’t know
If it was meant for me
Or for herself
 Just one
more breathe
I need you
to do that
for me
I could barely hear her
Couldn’t see her
But I did breathe
Had to do it
Couldn’t let her down

This poem reminds me of another poem I wrote; There is no time for crying: https://mystorieswithmusic.com/2019/02/20/there-is-no-time-for-crying/, I feel like this poem is about the same sisters on their journey in a dangerous world. Maybe this would be a good poem to have in the next poetry night post that I plan, where there will be more audio poems. What do you guys think?

This is now apparently my “poetry night owl” 😊

If you like the images that have been used to illustrate this poem, they are all from morguefile.com.
